It is generally not recommended to handle butterfly caterpillars with your bare hands, as the oils and sweat on your skin can damage the caterpillar’s delicate exoskeleton. 

Additionally, some caterpillars can release toxins or irritants as a defense mechanism when they feel threatened, so it is best to handle them with caution. 

If you do need to handle a caterpillar, it is best to use a pair of tweezers or a soft brush to gently lift and move it.
